Did you know your diet has a major impact on the health of your teeth? For example, sugars create an environment where bad, acidic bacteria grows. However, would you be surprised to learn that there are a number of issues you could have to cope with if you decide to drink soda regularly?
As you probably know, many men and women of all ages drink soda. In Utah we have an especially high rate of diet drink consumption! However, please note that your teeth will be negatively impacted by soda consumption, regardless of your age. Acids in a soda can actually weaken and wear down your enamel. This is a problem because once your enamel is gone, it’s gone forever. To make matters worse, if your enamel is gone, you’ll be more vulnerable to gum disease and tooth decay.
There are a few things you CAN DO to do mitigate the effects of drinking soda. DO NOT brush your acid-coated enamel after you consume a diet drink or soda pop! As an alternative, we recommend milk, seltzer water, or good old fashioned H2O.
