What is Your Smile Worth?

Posted Nov 01, 2021.

Recently a pair of Michael Jordan's sneakers from his 1984 NBA season sold for over $1.5 million, the most valuable pair of shoes ever sold.

You are probably thinking the same thing I did when I first saw that, “who on earth would pay 1.5 million for an old worn pair of sneakers?” Obviously it's worth that much money to someone.

We all have different things that we value in our lives. The interesting part is sometimes the things we spend the most money on are the things that CAN be replaced.

For example, people will easily spend $30,000 to $40,000 on a car, usually financed, only to turn around and do it again in five or six years later for the average driver. Our health on the other hand, is something that CANNOT be replaced, along with our relationships. If your car gets rear ended, or you blow a tire, you can replace it with the same part. But your health cannot always be replaced to the same level of value, functionality or appearance. For example, many of our patients who have shared their experience with me about total knee replacements have seen mixed results. Some hate it, some love it. Most like it, but nearly anyone who has gone through that procedure probably wishes they could have kept their original knee.

Thankfully, with modern science and medicine, we have these options. So, how much is your health worth to you? How much is a confident smile worth to you? How much are your relationships worth to you? It's a question worth asking yourself and reflecting on today.

Have a great week!
